Come study in the Rocky Mountains, in the city that Outside Magazine lauds as the second best place to live in the U.S. That’s right: Provo, UT. With ample opportunities to ski, hike, camp, fish, and bike just minutes from campus. In BYU’s two-year program, not only do students complete a thesis in poetry, fiction or nonfiction, but they have excellent teaching options in first-year composition, advanced writing, and beginning creative writing. Our award-winning faculty members are generous with their time but rigorous in their expectations. Each fall we sponsor a two-day writing retreat in Capitol Reef (a national park). Our program also provides generous funding for travel to AWP or a similar conference. The department sponsors a weekly reading series that features not only regional writers but international greats such as Derek Walcott, Marilynne Robinson, Yusef Komunyakaa, Terry Tempest Williams, and Robert Pinsky.
