Author Information

Mary Shelley
Gerson, Noel B. Daughter of Earth and Water-VII. William Monew and Company, Inc. New York 1973.
This gives a wonderful background of how Mary Shelley started writing Frankenstein. It also tells some about her life and what she had to go through when writing.

A Chronology
R. Glynn Grylls. Mary Shelley-Chronology Haskell House Publishers LTD. New York, NY 10012 1969.
This is a basic chronology of the author Mary Shelley's life. She did a lot in her life, and I thought it would be interesting to look at a chronology like this.

Mary Shelley-Composition
Walling, William A. Mary Shelley-Composition. Twayne Publishers, Inc. New York 1972.
This goes in a little more depth with the coming together of the novel. I found it very interesting, and I thought students would, as well.

A Vindication on the Rights of Women written by Shelley’s mother, Mary Wollstonecraft. Gives a feel for the type of rebellious spirit the embodied Shelley’s life. Website has full text divided by chapters with sub headings.
