Novel Information and Resources:

"1995 Newbery Acceptance Speech"
Creech, Sharon. Journal of Youth Services in Libraries. 8 (1995): 347-353.
This is a great look at the author and her purpose in writing Walk Two Moons, and what impact she thinks it will have on students and children. Also, it expresses the impact that the book has already had on readers. She found that not only children enjoy this book but grandmas, mothers, women, and men come to her book signing. Teachers will enjoy this book as much as the students.

"An interview with Sharon Creech, 1995 Newbery Medal winner"
Hendershot, J. & Peck, J. The Reading Teacher. 49, 5 Feb (1996): 380-2.
This article is a great and in-depth interview with Sharon Creech about her book Walk Two Moons. In it, Sharon discusses why she decided to write this book, where the characters come from, and how this story connects to her personal life. It is great for any teacher wondering how and for what purpose Sharon wrote Walk Two Moons.

"Columnist Slams Newbery Winner for Being 'Too Realistic'"
School Library Journal. 41 June (1995): 16.
Written in response to an article in the Chicago Tribune, this article backs up the real life situations in Walk Two Moons. It discuss the fact that students and children reading this book probably have an idea of the real life issues in the book such as death in the family. A great article for looking at an opposing view of Sharon Creech's book.

"Creating People Who are quirky and Kind"
Lowery-Moore, Hollis. Teacher Librarian. 28:4 (2001): 54-6.
Hollis talks closely with Sharon about different characters in the book and how they accept and deal with their family. She specifically talks about some of her craziest characters such as Gram but she also talks about her main character, Sal, and how she creates a journal that ultimately helps her understand.

"Student Activity 3- Walk Two Moons"
Ladd, Patricia K.
http://www.sdcoe.k12.ca.us/score/walk/walkact3.htm

This is a great plan for a group writing activity for a classroom. It contains three different sections, first "the process: Exploring the Web, Creating a Product". This activity can be done on the web but with a few adjustments teachers can have the resources to do it with out the internet by following the instructions on the page. This site also gives advice for teacher on grading and other possibilities with the book.
