Holes

Holes Vocabulary Strategy

This vocabulary strategy, like all other strategies for this unit, is designed for the sixth grade. This is a student self-monitoring activity. After completing a classroom task, students would work on this then take it home as homework. These terms come directly from the novel Holes. In its entirety this activity should take about thirty minutes. Morecould be added to this strategy as needed.

ratio --The comparison of two things

hammock -- The warden's place to relax

barren -- Plain, desolate

Pendanski -- Stanley's counselor

astonishment -- Amazement

concoction -- A recipe of sorts

predator -- An attacker

spigot -- From which water flows

grotesque -- Gross

mirage -- An illusion

evaporate -- The run off shower water does this compound -- A camp or fortress
