The Bumblebee Flies Anyway Assignment Menu

DIRECTIONS - You must choose and complete at least four assignments from this menu. You must choose one from each difficulty level and one from each learning style.

1 Rank the characters (#1 being the highest) by answering the question, "Who has the most power?" Make a Semantic Reading Map including each of the characters and at least 15 factors. Draw or paint an abstract picture depicting the emotional state of one of the main characters: Barney, Mazzo, Billy, Cassie, or the Handyman. In chapters 15-16, Barney discovers that the Handyman has been controlling his memory. Find at least 4 newspaper articles showing people being manipulated or taken advantage of by stronger forces.
2 On page 177 Barney notes that "the Handyman seemed to be playing with words." Find at least 10 examples in the book where the Handyman seems to be playing with words. Choose a character from the book and make a life graph for them indicating the high and low points of the character's life in the book. See the example provided. Pick a chapter where Billy or Cassie figures prominently. Write at least a 2-page journal entry covering the time from of that chapter. Generate a list of questions that you could use to interview Mazzo about his suicidal tendencies. Generate another list of at least 10 questions and interview at least five classmates about their feeling about suicide.
3 Complete a Story Grammar for the novel. Fulfill the requirements of the "I Can't Remember" Game. You will need a partner. See me for a detailed instruction- sheet. This deals with chapters 15-16 where Barney learns that the Handyman has stolen his memories. Guided Imagery Exercise with chapters 15-16. See me for instructions. Make a questionnaire based on your interpretation of why Barney doesn't commit suicide. Refer to chapters 20-22 for help. Have at least 10 classmates fill out your questionnaire. Using their responses, create a Choose Your Adventure type ending for the novel - at least 3 different possible endings.
