Assignment Menu for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling
Directions: From this assignment menu you must choose four different assignments. You must pick one from each difficulty level and one from each learning style. All four assignments must be completed by the end of the unit.
3rows 5 columns
Difficulty Level Mastery Understanding Self Expressive Interpersonal 1 Choose one word from each chapter of the novel (17 total) and make a crossword puzzle out of them. Choose three chapters from the book and write daily journal entries for one of the main characters in those chapters. If Harry had to make a collage about himself, what would he include? Make the collage on half a sheet of posterboard. Some of the foods mentioned in the novel are probably unfamiliar to you since they are English dishes. Pick one of dishes, find a recipe about how to make it, prepare it and either eat it at home or bring it to share with the class. Write a short paragraph about finding, making, and eating the food. 2 Make a timeline of the novel's major events on a large sheet of butcher paper. The timeline should be attractive and you can include pictures from magazines, printed on a computer, or hand-drawn. With a partner, create a Hogwarts school newspaper containing stories that would be included after all of the events in the novel have happened. It should be two, letter sized pages long. Draw, paint, or sculpt the way you see the Hogwarts castle. Make sure you use information from the book and list page numbers where you found descriptions of the school on a separate sheet of paper that you will turn in with your artwork. Create a survey of at least 10 items on some topic relating to the novel. Have the rest of the class fill out your survey and write up your findings and conclusions in a 1 ½-2 page report. Give a 3 minute presentation to the class on your findings.
