Describe the path that you took from your BYU English degree to your current career, highlighting the important realizations and turning points that paved the path for you.
I worked as a podcast producer/writer at Deseret Book for two years after graduating. I took a podcast lab class at BYU, applied for an internship, and then that changed into a podcast job. It was incredible but ended up not being what I was looking for in a job, got licensed to teach through UVU's Masters in Secondary Ed program.
What are the specific skills that you cultivated as an English major that you now use in your professional life? And how do you use those skills in ways that set you apart from your colleagues?
Clear communication in writing. Giving effective, actionable feedback. Analyzing problems to find solutions. Sharing different perspectives and considering options outside of the box.
What do you wish you had known as an English major? Is there any advice you'd like to share with current students?
There are so many career options with an English degree! I wish I would have considered a minor in editing.
